History

The first ISPU World Championship was held in 1992. Initially it was only open to giant schnauzers to show off the advantages of the breed as working dog. Since 2017 all Schnauzer and Pinscher Breeds can participate in the IGP-FH division. Those are: Giant Schnauzer, Schnauzer, Miniature Schnauzer, German Pinscher, Miniature Pinscher and Affenpinscher.

The ISPU – the International Schnauzer Pinscher Union – was foundet on March 19, 1977. It was set out to be a international cynological association for said all Schnauzer and Pinscher breeds.

In 1994 the ISPU-WM was held in Feldkirchen, Austria for the first time.

Friendship, competition and love for purebred dogs

In 2026 the first ISPU-Championship of International Companion Dogs (1. ISPU-WM IGBH) will be held simultaneously with the 9. ISPU-WM IGP-FH and the 34. ISPU WM IGP-3.

The event is not only a place for friendly competition between doghandlers, over the years it has grown into an international friendship meeting. Participants meet up and find the time to get to know the location and it’s people, getting an unique view of the host country.

Memorable expierences and new friendships stay with the athletes which creates a big community of like-minded people who love dogs and friendly competition.
